The Summer 2014 Issue is Live!

The Summer 2014 issue is live!
The Baltimore Review editors congratulate the winners of our summer contest. The theme for the contest was “How To,” and the contest was judge by Michael Downs. Thanks to all the writers who submitted their work for the contest. We hope that they enjoyed exploring “how to” in their poems, short stories, and creative nonfiction as much as we enjoyed reading their work.
I also hope that everyone who entered the contest will use this prompt again and again. Considering how we learn, what we want and need to learn, how we teach others, how we convey an understanding of the world to others in the best possible way through our writing—if this simple prompt gets your wheels spinning, that’s no small feat.
Congratulations to the following contest winners:
1st Place – Diana Spechler
2nd Place – Ginny Hoyle
3rd Place – Shirley Fergenson
I hope that you will read and enjoy all the poems, short stories, and creative nonfiction (including the short “sprints”) in this issue. You may find varying degrees of “how to” in all of them, whether the writers intentionally wrote on this theme or not. You may learn something. Good writing does that.
