Roger Camp

Visual

My work represents a means of exploration in a world unconstrained by physical boundaries. Photographs that are layered in mystery and narrative are among those which one can revisit often. This seems especially true of images laced with suggestion, of actions and characters existing outside the frame.

What I found so arresting in Roger Camp’s photo are its ironies of tone and color, form.

The linear perspective creates the illusion you are moving into a room inhabited by shadows. But it is that very absence of form which gives this tonal composition its power. The strong, vertical element repeats in shapes and shadows: the pants, the window frame— a rhythm the eye enjoys. In contrast, the horizontal lines— the bed, the rumpled texture of its cover—explode in vibrant red what otherwise might be a study in quiescence.
